Artist Statement Pablo Picasso said "Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up." This is one of Jay Richardson's favorite quotes. It shows that everyone has an artist inside of himself, no matter what age. That is how passion, drive, and motivation has kept Jay still doing what he loves...art. Jay grew up in Columbus, Mississippi. He has always loved drawing and being creative. His love for buildings, structures, and anything architectural is a result of tagging along with his father building houses. Although Jay loves all art, Charcoal and Graphite are his two favorites to work with. He also loves the simplicity of black and white because no color commitment or distractions allows greater focus on the shadows and highlights of an image.
