Sage Sansone, Asheville NC Member Since March 2012 Artist Statement I was born in 1974 in Santa Fe New Mexico and was raised in rural Brooklyn Connecticut. My mother and grandmother who are both skilled in visual art taught me how to draw and paint at the early age of five, which continued to be nurtured by various professors. Over the years I developed my own whimsical style. In high school and the first year of college I accumulated a professional portfolio of surreal and realistic drawing and watercolors. I later ventured into portrait work, illustration jobs, CD art for music promotion. Beginning in 1994 I began focusing my professional energy on my music, which was also a prevalent gift I was born and raised with. In 2009 my improvisation music (in The River Guerguerian Project), led me to perform with renowned abstract expressionist acrylic paint, Jonas Gerard. I began working for him in Sales which allowed me to soak in the essence of freedom through his colorful and fearless work, inspiring me to revisit and experiment further with my visual art. In 2010 I began building a new portfolio in acrylic paint, and am now rebuilding a professional body of work. Many people comment on how my work reminds them of my singing. I see now that music and visual art comes from the same place.
