DescriptionCopyright 2014 RC deWinter ~ All Rights Reserved'Fitting Retribution'With purpose I set out a sunny day, A task to be performed in wild wood. Not far had I progressed upon my way When a dark stranger dressed in cloak and hood Appeared as if magicked from shadow smoke. 'Good day, fair maid, and whither goest thou? Perhaps to worship at the sacred oak? Be ye advised that we do not allow A stranger's hand to pluck what we preserve. This sacred ground we hold among ourselves. And here we all the ancient gods do serve, In this, the home of faeries, sprites and elves.' I smiled most charming; he was most deceived, My mission still a secret, unperceived. 'Good sir,' said I, 'perhaps you can me guideTo this fair tree you speak of, I know not Where it may stand in all this wood beside Surrounding us. Come, lead me to the plot.' He smiled and took my hand, silent we walked Deep into the heart of the dark'ning wood, He unaware he was the sinner stalked For crimes against the hallowed brotherhood. His greed surpassed the sacred oath he swore, Our secrets sold for coin, our faith debased. Swift retribution comes to who ignore The honor of the trust that has been placed. Betrayal is not brooked, and he would pay For his transgressions on this very day.
As golden sun gave way to evening sky at last beneath the sacred oak we stood. He turned as if to speak, and then did I Throw off the glamour of my womanhood, Revealing my true nature underneath. Onto his knees he fell, loud he implored For mercy as he lay upon the heath. 'No honor to a traitor is restored. No restitution can you think to make For this most grievous perfidy you own. What knowledge giveth we do now retake, With death in life is how you shall atone,' Said I, entombing him within the tree, Condemned to silence for eternity. ~RC deWinter&l
