Description This was the old Mississippi and Tennessee Railway. That used to run from Memphis, Tennessee to Grenada, Miss. (it actually connected with the Mississippi Central that ran from Canton, Mississippi to Jackson, Tenn.) It later became consolidated with the Yazoo and Mississippi Valley and it became a part of the Illinois Central System. This was once the route of the 'Panama Limited' and the 'City of New Orleans.' In 1995, due to the IC's decision to focus more on the ex-Y&MV route (probably because the ex-Y&MV route was five or ten years newer than the Grenada line, as shown in this photo, and it had a easier grade and a level land.) the C of NO shifted to the Yazoo Sub. When Canadian National merged the IC in 1999, they decided to keep the eastern line open. Currently, the line sees weekly locals and the occasional Nissan train that runs from Memphis to Canton, Miss.
