Description This mosaic horse, although he has a southwest USA look and feel, was actually photographed in St. Petersburg, Russia, in the Hermitage Museum. On the first floor, the Pavilion Hall, designed by Andrei Stakenschneider in 1858, occupies the Northern Pavilion of the Small Hermitage. It features the 18th-century golden Peacock Clock by James Cox and a collection of mosaics. The floor of the hall is adorned with a 19th-century imitation of an ancient Roman mosaic...... ...... ..... ......This mosaic horse is a tiny part of this magnificent mosaic floor located in the Pavilion Hall. The mosaic in the Hermitage is a copy of a Mosaic floor which was discovered in 1780 during the excavations of the Thermae in the ancient Roman town Otriculum (modern Otricoli), near Rome. The original, classical Mosaic is twice the size of the Hermitage copy.
