Description Nightmare and Dream pursue each other endlessly across the sleeping mind. Their pursuit is endless and has been ongoing since the beginning of time. This is a small scratchboard/watercolor at only 5x7. I have decided that this piece may be a sketch for a bigger Nightmare and Dream(s) piece with multiple dream foxes. There is a small amount of digital tampering here, but not as much as the look and feel would suggest. I only added a grayness to the hide of the nightmare/horse, and a wash of white to the fox/dream.Funfact: Those dots of black on the bottom were a 'happy accident'. I splattered a loaded brushful of ink on my drafting table, marking up my panel. I shrugged and decided to go with it.
Keely Dolan, Seattle Member Since January 2009 Artist Statement My name is Keely Dolan, and I'm a Seattle based artist. I work in many mediums, but primarily in the hyper-detailed medium of scratchboard, manipulating it uniquely like a very fine woodcut. I often add watercolor to my finished pieces, which, on the starkness of the white of the uncovered scratchboard, often gives my originals a jewel-like quality.
My inspiration comes from dreams and nature, with a sprinkling of the occult. I am interested in the symbolism of nature and how it can transcend into our sleeping hours.
