The Burden
Another day dawns. The pale fingers of the sun crawl across your forehead, sit squarely on your throbbing eyelids. You turn, shielding yourself from life's assault. Everything needs your attention, and you are running short of attention to give.
The world turns. You hurt as you labor, but still you live.
Another day dawns. The alabaster snowlight slaps your face, Illuminating crazed patterns behind your sewnshut eyelids. You turn, cursing the frigid season that bites your bones. Everything needs your attention, but pain eats it all away.
The world turns. You hurt as you labor, but still you live.
Another day dawns. You find your way through the fog to my parlor. I show you to the new uncomfortable chair I have bought just for you. You sit, unable to find a soft place to rest, and, peering over the edge of flame that half-consumes you, tell me you never expected to live this long. I smile at you, not bothering to hide my fangs, and say, 'L'chaim!' ~ copyright 2015 RC deWinter
