Description These cups are used for a ceremonial way to show respect at Shinto shrines in Japan. This was photographed at Meiji Shrine in Tokyo. Visitors are given the following instructions.1. Rinse your left hand.2. Rinse your right hand.3. Pour water into your left hand.4. Rinse your mouth.5. Rinse your left hand again.6. Rinse the dipper (allow the remaining water to run down the handle of the dipper).Please do not touch the dipper directly with your lips, and please do not throw coins into the water. Original photo.
