a sunny day in may
i always loved that you wrote letters even when the world had shifted gears dismissing pen in hand in favor of the message electronic i had been so long without one i wasn't worried - not exactly - but often wondered what it was that kept your hand from writing
your letter came a sunny day in may late afternoon delivery i guess i'm at the tail end of the route impatient though i was i stuffed the letter in my pocket and walked downtown - wanting to savor every word - to that small caf we liked
i found one of those outdoor tables waiting on the sidewalk so i sat and fidgeted a bit anxious for my latte and at being on display i wanted my eyes to hear your words while hot coffee caressed my tongue it was torture waiting
the latte came i reached into my pocket tore open that plain envelope tattooed with your distinctive scrawl and read two paragraphs and i was done and gulping down the steaming drink - for why not set it all on fire inside and out? -
i shredded your fine letter so bloodless so precise littering the table chair and sidewalk leaving scattered bits of paper to the wind perhaps the next to sit will put this puzzle back together for i'm sure i never can 2013 RC deWinter
