Artist Statement Mike Potts uses photography, sculpture, and painting, as methods for expressing his vision of Art. His painting ranges from very controlled and methodic methods to an erratic and spontaneous use of color, body language, and brush stroke. All methods of this aim either individually, or collectively, at depicting the emotional exchange that occurs between the interaction of man and his environment. A major inspiration for Mike's original work derives from the term “Flanuer”, which as envisioned by photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson, focuses on the authentic depiction of man in motion in his environment.

In addition to his original and commission work, Mike travels the country offering unique experiences to audiences large and small as a live performance painter. He uses his artistic gift to help raise money for various charities and in the process provide audiences a glimpse at some of the basic principles artists use to establish resolve in their most personal work. Mike selects his live painting subject matter based on the goal that it will immediately engage the audience in the process of painting. Many times this takes the form of painting people of historical reference who have inspired great masses. This combined with his desire and energy to show people the process of art live helps bring people to a more personal awareness of how art can positively impact lives.
