Description The term monkey-nail is now the generic designation of the old species of monkeys Cebus apella. They feed of fruits, nuts, seeds, flowers, insects, eggs and small vertebrates. They can live in groups up to fifty individuals. The monkey-nail is considered the most intelligent primates from America. It is the only primate neotropical that frequently, uses tools in natural atmosphere. The most common tools are stones used for break of encapsulated fruits (coconuts). Also use stcks to capture larvas of insects and honey of hollows of trees, and stones to dig the soil in search of eatable roots. Reproduction happens once a year, with only one nestling, (twins are rare), whose gestation period is about six months.
