dj you
wandering under clear blue mountain skies lost but happy in a city i didn't know i felt free yet safe exploring those neatly laid out squares opening into avenues lined with elegance as foreign to me as the language being spoken
a careless turn found me in an alley that somehow didn't seem to belong unpolished a little wild not quite seedy but almost irresistible all the same a charming weed sprouting in a well-planned garden
i felt i'd slipped into a place i'd been before though home was half a world away
and there you were when our eyes met i whirled in a kaleidoscope of sound and color remembering exactly what i wasn't sure except i'd known you in another time another place another life
and you were spinning in that memory with me and i reached up to touch your face but couldn't somehow
your mouth never moved as you said this is not the time this is not the place this is not the life words i felt rather than heard syllables prickling along the skin of my outstretched arm
and though we never touched i was on fire as i stared into your eyes so dark and deep i felt like i was dropping down a well
and never turning you stepped back our eyes still locked and melted into a doorless windowless house i'm sure wasn't there until that very moment
wait i cried but you were gone locked away behind the impenetrable plaster walls of another time another place another life
and i am left in the here and now with nothing but bits of colored glass broken mirrors and the echo of a melody i know but cannot name ~ copyright 2016 RC deWinter
