Description I took this photo on Tuesday 10-26-2010, at 1801 hours, of this Great Horned Owl in Pinal County about five miles south of Rt 60 and Highway 79 on my way to Florence, Arizona. I have seen this Owl last year and obtained a few shots with a Nikon 70-200mm lens. This year I had a Nikon 200-400 F 4 lens, zoomed in to 400mm, set to 1/200 sec Shutter Speed, F 5.0, 1000 ISO, at 14 Bit RAW, with a Nikon SB-900 Flash set to TTL, with a Nikon D-700 12 MP D-SLR in Manual Mode, at 5650 Degrees Kelvin. I was about 110 feet away as I took a photograph from the shoulder of the road. (GPS Lat 33,11.5608N, Long 111,20.9977W, Alt 537m. I opened the file in CS4, made a few Levels adjustments and sharpened to a Highpass of 1.6. The sky was originally very dark when I took this shot, so I decided to Mask in a sunset shot I had previously taken on 2-21-2010 at 1807 hours, at 1/160 sec Shutter Speed, F 5.6, ISO 100, at 300mm with the same 200-400mm lens, at 4450 Degrees Kelvin, with the same Nikon D-700 D-SLR. I darkened this sunset in Levels and masked it behind the owl. I saved it in layers.
