Artist Statement In 1967, I was teaching school full time in Manhattan and studing drawing from the live model on Saturdays at the legendary Art Students League. A severe injury to my drawing hand interrupted my life, leaving me unable to continue at the League, or pursue their offer of a full scholarship. To support myself, I spent rewarding years teaching school, followed by a colorful job as copy editor / photographer for a Caribbean travel magazine. During those years I pursued an eclectic art education, taking classes that would enable me to one day become an artist with a thorough grounding.

That time came in the year 2000 when I began, once again, to work from the live model. I am fascinated by the kaleidoscope of everyday people. Just a walk down the street is a feast for the eyes.

The people you see in my artwork are all real people. I have tried to enter their world for a little while and put down an impression. No photographs were used, only live observation.

Most of the original artwork was created on acid-free speckletone paper. The speckles add character and texture to the final image.

I recomend the ULTRA SMOOTH FINE ART Paper for the best reproduction of the original image.
