She took me with her to some of her art classes. I guess it rubbed off, because I love to paint. We just celebrated my mom's 80th birthday January this year. Yes, she is still painting.
In 1983 I graduated from the Ft. Lauderdale Art Institute with a degree in Fashion Illustration. Other things began to inspire me more than fashion, and my art took a turn to the Native American Spirit world; as did my own Christian belief system. The Earth, Gaia, as my divine mother, Great Spirit above me, shining down love and light. All creatures and creation expressing
the different aspects of Creator. All My Relations, truly resonated with in my whole being. Moving from Florida to Virginia brought me closer to the Native Way. I found a church that practiced many Native traditions including, smudging, drumming ceremony, sacred dancing, sweat lodge, and woman's healing and dreaming circles.
As my life unfolded, I raised two of my children alone, working as a hearing aid specialist. My art became more a part of my spiritual expression than a career as an artist. I began to explore the feminine face of God and found a rich history of the Goddess religion, existing thousands of years before any of the major currant religions. The history of Mary Magdalene, and her followers in France, has also peaked my curiosity.
You will find a piece of personal spiritual experiences in all my paintings. Just like music or aroma can evoke vivid feelings, I hope that this artwork will evoke feelings in you that bring about spiritual healing and an appreciation for the beauty of life. A wise woman , Laughing Heart, told me that each painting is a prayer to Great Spirit. I like to think of my paintings like that. I hope you will too.
