This work of art is very much about my own youth growing up with three older brothers and always being in there shadow. Sometimes that shadow is a wonderful and powerful thing that gives you shelter from storms or that you can hide in when need be. Other times it can be very intimidating quashing even the bravest of thoughts. I think in my case I was quite lucky to be under the shadow. I hope this painting brings you that same luck with your life and your shadows that you walk under.
These paintings come from my desire to brighten up my own day and life. I thoroughly enjoy painting. To me painting is a joy. When I stand back and look at each painting, I smile. Because other people react the same way, I choose to share my work and spread the happiness around. That joy carries through the work to the viewer. My hope is that when you hang it on the wall, you will find that this vibrant dreamy landscape makes you smile every time that you see it.
This series of impressionistic works are inspired by the Group of Seven and Emily Carr. The images are filled with the feeling of movement and activity, yet are calm and dream-like to view. This work of art will be relaxing and enjoyable for years to come.
Richard Hoedl, Nanaimo, British Columbia Member Since February 2007 Artist Statement
Born in 1970, Richard Hoedl grew up on a farm in the frozen swampland of northern Alberta, Canada. As Richard was noted for his artwork from the time he was a young child, he left as soon as possible to begin his art training and career.
After doing the whole starving artist stint for way too long he finally started to get it right!
He has since grown in popularity, selling his work to a long list of international collectors. His prices doubling just in the last few years alone. With his unique styles that captures the human condition within the deceivingly simple landscapes and the classical nudes.
While painting frantically in his loft studio, Richard continues to explore the vast opportunities of a variety of mediums and a continual cascade of new inspirations.
