Description Colorized photo from 1900Original title: A walk in Lincoln ParkPhotographer: Detroit PublishingLocation: Lincoln Park, near the Ben Franklin statue, pointing at the south pond bridge. This is Lincoln Park in Chicago, at one point this stretch of pathway, may have been called 'lover's lane'. There will be no love today however, too many people staring at you. This path is still being used, its located near the Ben Franklin statue, pointing at the south pond bridge, which you can just make out in the clearing. The benches here are attached by long wires, I believe they were trying to prevent the trees from floating away. It could also be that the benches would go feral at night and get loose. Running around the park and scaring people. So they tied them down firmly. These wires however probably created an interesting hazard for kids. Decapitation. They are at the right height and invisible, certainly there must have been a few people that tripped, flipped or were clotheslined by these wires. On the right seems to be a sprinkler of some kind, but only one, and only there. Hard to say its for the kids, because there are no kids under it, and there seems to be a cop guarding it. He may very well be the anti-fun police. Further on in the back on the left, you'll see people getting on a hammock, and others just lying around on the grass.
