Description Colorized photo from 1901Original Title: The ArcadePhotographer: Detroit PublishingLocation 401 Euclid Ave, Cleveland, OHThis is the Arcade in Cleveland, OH, a landmark and still standing today. It was built in 1890 built by the Detroit Bridge Co, they were the same people who designed the Brooklyn Bridge, the Roebling Bros.It was modeled after the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II located in Milan. The Arcade has two buildings on either end, and is 9 stories tall, the skylight is a 100ft long and made up of 1800 panes of glass.Over the years the building has changed its look, this image is from 1901 and you can see those rather ugly Gothic style lights, and the glorification of the light bulb as they are everywhere, including the ceiling. There is another photo from around 1915, where they removed most of the bulbs in the roof (probably because they were a pain to change), and replaced the stairs entirely. Only two stores from between those two period survived, Hexters Linens, and that store with the ramp. It seemed to be a different color as well, so it must have had an overhaul. During the 1950's or 1960's, the made it look older by adding ornate trim everywhere. It became an historic landmark in 1975, then in 1997, it became a hotel, and that's what it is now.As a side note, while the room looks empty, you can see hints of ghosts in different spots of the room where they moved.
