Description This is a fine art print of my drawing of the Pescheria in Venice. This work was exhibited at the 86th Annual Exhibition of the Society of Graphic Fine Art at the Menier Gallery in central London. The original drawing is in pen and black ink with coloured pencil on Arches Hot Press. The scene is the entrance to the famous fish market on the south side of the Grand Canal, opposite the Ca D'Oro and near the Rialto. Fish have been sold from this site for the last 600 years. The market building has very high arches all round and large banner like red curtains are hung in these and then adjusted to shade the market as the sun moves round the building.
I have a longstanding commitment to the value of drawing and use of dry media and am particularly interested in the subtleties of colour. I'm stimulated by repetition and variation - by the shapes and patterns I find in the natural world, the structure of objects and places and the way in which light impacts on both colour and form. In relation to places, my preference is to work from life wherever possible and I very much enjoy working "en plein air" and in public places.
Critical acclaim of my artwork focuses on my drawing skills and my use of colour. I exhibit in the UK and overseas and with various national art societies and I have work in private collections in the UK, Australia and the USA.
