Perfect Timing
Night's curtain was just falling
when I reached the shore, the sea barely rippling
on a perfect summer evening, the sea grass
shimmering in the saltwater mirror.
In the sky, magick was happening.
The sun had just slipped below the horizon,
its light still illuminating the treeline.
Off the east the moon, a pale crescent,
shyly shed its silver in a darkened corner of the cosmos.
And there - there! - not quite in the middle
of day and night, shone the evening star,
Venus, smiling down as if to say, 'Love still lives.'
A great peace enveloped me as I stood,
staring as one bewitched, with a heart
full of hope for the first time since I don't know when.
There will be dark days and darker nights ahead.
I hope, as they roll across the landscape,
I can remember this night and the
perfect storm of beauty that lit the world.
