Old Love into New
You told me how you'd loved her, how her going left a hole in your heart. But now, you said, that hole had healed; you were ready to invite love in again. You told me about your house, wanted me to see it, to know its warmth.
You took me there one moonlit night. It was everything youd described; its peace enveloped me, a blanket of serenity in the chaos of a world too often harsh.
You toured me through the rooms; I was particularly taken with study. Yes, you said. It's my favorite room. This was our place after the madness of the day was done. This could be our place too.
On the windowsill, in moonlight, sat a pitcher and bowl, ancient, cherished; I admired it. An heirloom from her family, you said. I grew to love it. It may be my dearest treasure. I'm happy you like it, too.
Your care for her memory and what she brought you, your openness and delight in sharing, showed me a man of infinite tenderness. And, seeing this, I dont mind slipping into a place youd loved with someone else.
Your memories are not a rival, but an invitation to refashion something beautiful for us. I want to be that pitcher, filling the bowl of life with the warm and scented water of love. ~ copyright 2016 RC deWinter
