are stale replays splintering
into granular fragments
spinning in circles
recombining
in disjointed patterns of
a broken kaleidoscope
he said i saw they didn't
in the end who cares
a faulty memory would be a gift
if only thoughts raced in rectangles

trapezoids
angular
rigid
anything but the tender infinity
of a circle
that way lies madness
an invitation to the fruit bin

time to shift the scene
i'm going outside to change places
with the maid
while she sits in the parlor
buried in bread and honey
